Thank you so much for taking the time to read our weekly blog. I am working towards posting more photos and adding the poem of the week, etc., so stay tuned for more as each week passes!
Language- This week we are looking at all of the writing we have done since September, primarily our Remnant Journals, since they are nice little 'packages' of writing that we can spread out on our desks and really reflect upon. I will be asking students to carefully look at their writing using our editing checklist (see previous post with image), and we will be trying to find common errors in our writing.
Taking time to proofread work is a skill that we are working very hard to make a habit of, as this step is often missed once our writing is 'complete'. A great place to see this in action is when your child completes the spelling homework (i.e. when there are sentences to write), or when your child is working on poetry homework that requires a sentence or more of writing. Watch to see if your child proofreads written work before exclaiming "I'm done!". Common errors in students' written work include spelling errors, omitting words, using capitals incorrectly, or missing punctuation.
Math- This week in math we are beginning a new unit in Geometry.
Grade 3 students will be building on their knowledge of comparing two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional figures and sorting them by their geometric properties (i.e. sides, faces, vertices, etc).
Grade 4 students will be building on their knowledge of quadrilaterals and three-dimensional figures, and classifying them by their geometric properties. They will also begin learning about various angles and how to compare them to benchmarks.
Student of the Week....changes!- As almost all of our class has presented as the Student of the Week, we will begin a NEW STUDENT OF THE WEEK routine at the end of February/ beginning of March. As usual, I will include a copy of the guidelines on the back of our monthly class calendar to ensure that everyone has the expectations.
Signing the Agenda- Please sign your child's agenda daily to ensure that you receive important letters and notes from school, along with noting the homework that your child has for the evening. Thank you kindly in advance!
*Please feel free to leave me a note in the agenda to let me know if you are finding the blog useful (homework tips, extra practice sites, etc). If there is something you would really like to see that isn't already here, please feel free to let me know!
Have fun working and being together, and thank you again for your continued support!
