Student of the Week Guidelines

STUDENT OF THE WEEK ...Changes!

Dear Families,

As you know, throughout the year, each child has had the opportunity to be the Student of the Week.  During their week, your child shared unique things about themselves with the class so that we were able to celebrate one another’s uniqueness. Promoting and developing self-esteem helps children personally, socially, and academically.

This term, we will share NEW information about ourselves in order to learn more about one other, and to practice new skills. Your participation will help your child to be successful and give you the opportunity to focus together on your child’s special qualities.

Your child should be prepared for each day:

Monday:   Create a short Biography about a special person in your life.
·        Approximately 1 paragraph to a 1/2 page in length
·        It can be about a parent, a friend, a neighbor or any other special person

The Biography should include:

1) Who is this person? Where they are from? What is their heritage?
 2) How do you know this person? How long you have known them?
3) Why is this is person particularly important to you/ Why did you choose this person?
4) What is an interesting fact about this person?
5) Anything extra you would like to tell us about this special person!

Tuesday:   A Unique Object! Bring in a unique object. It must be different from the one you have already shared with us! (Example: something that represents your heritage or a special memory). Be prepared to explain to the class the significance it has to you.

Wednesday:  Share a Special Memory. Write down a memory that is special/ funny/ happy, etc., to share aloud with us in class.

Thursday:   Bring your favourite Board Game (one that you enjoy playing at home), and be ready to share it with the class and to discuss why you chose it! *If possible, leave it in the class until tomorrow to be played during possible earned free choice time on Friday.*

Friday:   In class, students will celebrate the Student of the Week by sharing (in writing) what they have learned and enjoyed about them. We will share our writing in an appreciation circle at the end of the day.

I hope you will enjoy the time spent together as you assist YOUR Student of the Week!
