This week is a short week as we have Parent/ Teacher interviews on Thursday evening and Friday morning. There will be NO SCHOOL for students this Friday, February 13.
Interview request forms went home with your child on Friday, where it was indicated whether or not an interview was requested (by me). If I did not request an interview and you wish to meet, please indicate your time preference on the form and return to school NO LATER than tomorrow (Wednesday) so that I can coordinate meeting times (and try to coordinate with other teachers who may have siblings with interviews). Thank you in advance!
Please read the Valentine's Party page (to the right) and watch for a list of student names coming home by tomorrow.
Language- This week we are working on short story writing. We have been using our paragraph writing to help us further develop our ideas (and to add detail and structure to our writing). Our stories can have any topic, but must use the paragraph format to 'build' the story. This work will be done in class, but any help with generating ideas (about characters, plot, problems and solutions) at home would be most helpful.
Remnant Journals- As you know, we have been working on remnant writing all year to help us use descriptive details in our writing and to help us further develop our overall writing skills, i.e.; formatting, spelling, punctuation, etc. Every Monday, students are required to bring in an artifact as a focus for their writing. Unfortunately many students have not been bringing in artifacts on a regular basis. This makes their purpose for writing very vague and is a source of frustration for many, as it makes identifying a purpose for writing very difficult, and often leads to resistant writers. *Please encourage your child to bring in an artifact EVERY MONDAY MORNING!* Thank you for your support!
French- The Grade 4 French project, "Voila, C'est Moi" is due tomorrow. Students are required to write 8 sentences about themselves in French. They have been using their project outlines, 3 additional vocabulary pages (for support) and the rubric (see back of the outline) for assist in the completion of the project. Students know that they need to be ready to present in front of the class by tomorrow.
Science- Our Grade 3 and 4 science "Structures Projects" are due by the end of this week. Students have been given class time today, and will be given more tomorrow and Wednesday, however any materials needed should be sent to school so that students are fully equipped to complete the project at school if necessary. Similarly, if the project is being worked on at home, please do send it to school so that students can continue their work during our science periods.
Reminder for Grade 4s- Grade 4 students must also have a short (one paragraph) write-up to go along with their presentation, explaining how their moving part works.
Math- This week in math we will be finalizing our 'higher level thinking' survey questions, and will begin looking at which type of graph would be best suited to display our data. We will also begin collecting the data.
Please remember to check your child's agenda every day for important notes, letters home and forms! Thank you again for your continued support.
