Ms. Sullivan's Grade 3/4 Class!

Welcome to our Class Blog

Reading at Home

When reading with your child at home, take turns reading to one another ("I'll read one page, you read the next").

Please also use this guide to look for comprehension (a true understanding of the story):

These higher level thinking questions help extend the understanding of the text:

If your child is having difficulty answering the comprehension AND/OR the higher level thinking questions, try choosing a slightly 'easier' text (i.e. less complex story line), or perhaps check to see that your child is, in fact, able to decode (read the words with ease on their own).

Your child should be able to INDEPENDENTLY read (fluently) and understand (thoroughly) for the text to TRULY BE be 'at their level'.

Happy reading!

Welcome families!

I strongly believe in open communication with families and in working as a team to promote an effective and rewarding learning experience for your child.

To ensure ongoing communication, please remember to check and sign your child’s AGENDA every day. I too will be checking and signing every day, and will look forward to keeping in contact with you via notes in the agenda.

Please also feel free to call 416-394-7120 me at the school or e-mail me at emily.sullivan@tdsb.on.ca any time throughout the year.

NOTE: Our school runs on a 5-day rotation, however our classroom will follow the homework routines by day of the week (as follows):

MONDAY: Spelling is sent home, AND Multiplication Quiz results will be sent home for parents' signature.

Spelling folder will include a new list of words for the week, along with homework activities intended to reinforce understanding and promote practical use of words. *Spelling folder/complete homework returns to school Thursday- same day as Spelling Quiz.*

Poetry folder will contain new poem of the week which is meant to be shared aloud with a family member/s, and can be added to the Reading Record if desired. Poetry will often have an attached activity which is intended to reinforce various aspects of writing. Poetry folder returns following Tuesday.

Please see EQAO folder for detailed instructions on how to assist your child at home.

WEDNESDAY: Study for Thursday’s Spelling Quiz.
